ABSTRACT

The acute myeloid leukemia, is a disease which is a characterized by an irregular production of hematopoietic cells and cellular proliferation. It´s most common in adults, however only 1% of American adults will be diagnosed throughout their lives. Between the ages of 65-68 there is a high incidence with only 2-3 cases per 100.000 patients; making up only 10% of this type of cancer. It´s mainly diagnosed by using blood test, flow cytometry (on Bone Marrow samples). Some cytogenetic studies suggest that in a significant number of patients both somatic chromosomal inversion and translocation are present, while only a small percentage show no somatic chromosomal mutations. Consolidation therapy with a hematopoietic Stem Cells transplant, also known as a "allogenic transplant", can be potentially curative in some special cases.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore dynamic characteristics of the gait for the elderly with different fall risks before and after obstacle crossing. Methods Twenty-seven elderly people in community were graded as fall risk by using the time up and go test and five-time sit to stand test. The plantar pressure parameters of the elderly before and after obstacle crossing were measured and analyzed by foot pressure measurement system. Results There was no significant difference in the characteristic value of bimodal curve of overall plantar pressure between the high and low fall risk groups before and after obstacle crossing(P>0.05). The center of pressure (COP) trajectory in X direction of high fall risk group after obstacle crossing was significantly greater than that of low fall risk group (P0.05). Conclusions The support time of the elderly with high fall risk is longer than that of the elderly with low fall risk during obstacle crossing, the peak pressure of plantar metatarsal region of the crossing leg increases, and the plantar COP curve shows asymmetry, with an increase in transverse range of the coronal plane. In clinical evaluation, plantar pressure characteristics of people with fall risks during obstacle crossing should be focused on.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Generally there is poor tradition to produce and to commercialize heavy lean lamb carcasses. To achieve a better product for the ovine meat market Ideal (Polwarth) breed ewes were backcrossed to Texel breed rams (breed recognized to reduce carcass fat). Ideal breed (I) is one of the most ordinary breeds in Argentina. However, when their lambs are reared in feedlot conditions, a high fat content is found in their lamb carcasses. After three generations of backcrosses followed by a breeding program for increase male lamb weaning weight and female fertility a new genotype was obtained for the local ovine meat production systems. This new genotype registered as Magrario (M) was obtained at Villarino Field Station of UNR (Zavalla, Santa Fe, 33º S, 61º W). It was verify that M produced more lean meat than I breed under feet lot conditions. M rams were introduced in flocks of Hampshire Down (HD) breed to evaluate lamb crosses with lean meat. Genotype M was compared under feed lot conditions with HD lambs during two months in the post weaning. Also crosses (MxHD), (MxI) and (IxHD) were evaluated in the same conditions. At the end of the experiment ultrasonic methods were used to evaluate fat depot on Longissimus dorsi. The (MxHD) showed a reduction of 20% respecting to HD. These results suggested that M genotype could be a useful paternal genotype to reduce fat depots when the aim is to produce lamb crosses under feed lot conditions in a short period of time.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the effect of quadriceps femoris spasticity on the movement parameters in stroke patients during obstacle crossing. Methods:From October, 2017 to November, 2018, 20 stroke patients were divided into spasticity group (n = 11) and non-spasticity group (n = 9) based on the score of modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) of quadriceps femoris. A 10-camera 3D motion analysis system and two force plates were used to synchronously measure the movement parameters of the patients during obstacle crossing of 15 cm high, such as step length, step width, anterior-posterior velocity of the center of mass (COMAPV) and medio-lateral velocity of the center of mass, toe-obstacle distance of unaffected limb, toe-obstacle clearance of affected limb, heel-obstacle distance, double support phase, and the swing phases of affected and unaffected limb. Results:Compared with the non-spasticity group, the COMAPV decreased as both affected and unaffected limb above the obstacle in the spasticity group (F > 10.006, P < 0.01), as well as the toe-obstacle distance and step length before obstacle crossing (F > 13.456, P < 0.01); while, the double support phase and the step width after obstacle crossing increased (F > 4.533, P < 0.05). Conclusion:The quadriceps femoris spasticity may make the strategy of obstacle crossing more carefully for stroke patients, and less efficiently.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the gait characteristics related to the horizontal obstacle crossing, to optimize obstacle crossing strategy to reduce the risk of falling. Methods:A total of 15 healthy young men were recruited in September, 2019, to complete horizontal obstacle crossing tasks (0 cm, 45 cm, 55 cm and 65 cm wide), with dominant and non-dominant limbs first on a specific experimental path. Gait parameters were collected with infrared camera and biomechanics force plate. Results:As the width of the obstacle increasing, the speed, stride length, step length and toe clearance of trailing limb (TCt) increased; while the heel-to-obstacle distance (HOD) and toe-to-obstacle distance (TOD) decreased. As the non-dominant limb crossing first, the speed of following step was slower, and the TCt, step width, step length and HOD increased. Conclusion:The risk of falling increases with the width of the obstacle during horizontal obstacle crossing. It is recommended to use non-dominant limbs leading crossing, and increase stride length, step length and TCt to reduce the risk of falling.

ABSTRACT

Abstract: Roads, despite playing a key role in economy, begin or aggravate processes of forest fragmentation and lead to several species losing their natural habitats, acting as filters and barriers that impose challenges to animal locomotion. Wildlife crossings seek to reestablish the connectivity of the landscape. In general, after being installed, these passages need to be evaluated regarding their functioning. In this study, we present the results of monitoring the underpasses on Serra da Macaca Park Road (SP-139), which crosses Carlos Botelho State Park. The underpasses, constituted by bridges and culverts, were constructed after a license obtained to restore this section of the road. Camera traps were installed inside all crossing structures, and systematic samples were obtained through four field expeditions, with sampling efforts of 10 days each, between March 2018 and February 2019. The footprints found around the intersection structures were also considered. A two-sided Student's t-test was applied to verify differences in richness between the underpasses that have distinct types of margins. Differences in abundance were analyzed through the non-parametric Mann-Whitney test. A Whittaker diagram was generated according to the order of the species, from the most common to the rarest, while their diversity was estimated through Simpson's Diversity Index (1 - D). The Pearson correlation coefficient was used to study the interaction between diversity and altitude variation. We observed a richness of 16 species of terrestrial tetrapods, without any statistically significant differences between underpasses with dry or flooded margins. Cuniculus paca was the most abundant species, and higher altitudes presented the most diversity. We concluded that the underpasses located inside Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) of watercourses are essential to maintain the flow of animals beneath the road.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The general (GCA) and specific (SCA) combining ability and effects of five inbred lines of tropical endosperm maize from Sem Latam SA's tropical maize breeding programme were estimated for obtaining theoretical information concerning the genetic effects governing yield components and to have more information available for selecting the best progenitors for developing and producing commercially interesting hybrids. Positive SCA effect values were found regarding specific combinatorial ability for yield-related characters; however, they were not significantly different from zero, resulting in the lack of a heterotic pattern concerning the lines evaluated here. Little capitalisation regarding such lines' non-additive or dominant genetic effects concerning genealogical selection was seen here, thereby leading to interpreting the low manifestation of heterosis as an expression of the F1 crosses' hybrid vigour compared to that of the parental genotypes.

ABSTRACT

In "L' Étourdit" Lacan insists on his intention of clearing up the status of the psychoanalyst´s discourse. In this clearing, the social bond that will give shape to the new analytical institution proposed by him, the School, should be founded. He also emphasizes that this social bond would be "clean of all group needness". Implicit in these Lacanian statements is a whole conception of the grouping and formation of psychoanalysts. These pages want to contribute to the elucidation of this conception by focusing on the central place that mathematics has in it. The aim is to give an account of how the mathematical formalization crosses, at the same time, the School´s political-institutional proposal and the conceptualization of the clinical experience. It is proposed that there is a crossing of political, institutional, epistemic and clinical inscriptions

ABSTRACT

Objective: The objective of the present work is to develop and validate a new UV derivative spectrophotometric method for simultaneous estimation of metoprolol succinate and ramipril in methanol: water (50:50v/v). Methods: “Zero crossing technique” was chosen for quantitative determination. The zero-crossing points (ZCP’s) were found to be 209 nm where metoprolol succinate was quantified and 211 nm where ramipril was quantified. This method was then subjected to accuracy, linearity, sensitivity and reproducibility according to ICH guidelines to ensure and confirm its validity. Results: The method was found to be obeying Beer’s law in the range of 10-50 µg/ml and 5-25 µg/ml for metoprolol succinate and ramipril, respectively. The % recoveries were observed between the range of 99.2-100.2 for metoprolol succinate and 99.57-99.86 for ramipril. The intra-day and inter-day results showed reproducibility. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the developed third-order UV derivative spectroscopic method for the simultaneous determination of metoprolol succinate and ramiprilcan be recommended for routine quantitative analysis.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Among the negative impacts on biodiversity caused by road works, such as road and highways, are the killed caused by collisions with vehicles. In this study, the mortality of amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals by collision with vehicles is determined, on three roads that converge in the Tambogrande district (Piura in northern Peru), and the places with the highest incidence are established. Observations were between January and June of 2018 with a frequency of 24 trips once a week between the hours of 7.00 and 14.00. The trips were taken on a motorcycle at 25 km/h. Geographical coordinates of the point of collisions were recorded. The vertebrates mortality in transects lines was analyzed using the Kilometric Abundance Index (KAI). High incidence places were determined with a Kernel Density Analysis. 437 animals were found dead corresponding to 29 species. The animal group most affected was mammals followed by birds, reptiles and amphibians in that order. The mean KAI was 0.2 (95% CI 0.1 - 0.3) N° of incidences/km. We determinate 24 points of high incidence, they were close to each other. Based in our results, we propose to build eight animal crossing structures for vertebrates complemented with appropriate transit signals.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the kinematics characteristics of obstacle crossing in old people with high or low falling risks in Community. Methods:From July to September, 2016, 27 old persons in community were divided into high falling risk group (H group, n = 15) and low fall risk group (L group, n = 12) according to the performance of Timed "Up and Go" Test and Five Times Sit to Stand Test. The kinematics characteristics were analyzed with Ariel Performance Analysis System as obstacle crossing. Results:The total time of crossing and the swing time of crossing legs were longer in H group than in L group (t > 2.073, P < 0.05), and the maximum height of standardized centre of mass was less in H group than in L group (t =-2.014, P < 0.05). As the crossing leg was just above the obstacle, the angle of knee of crossing leg was more in H group than in L group (t > 2.106, P < 0.05), the velocity of hip of crossing leg was less in H group than in L group (t = -2.119, P < 0.05), and the acceleration of ankle of swinging leg was less in H group than in L group (t = -3.038, P < 0.05). Conclusion:When the old people cross the obstacle, they trend to fall if they spend more time to overcome, lower in mass centre, in less speed of crossing hip and less acceleration of swinging ankle.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the factors leading to the increased risk of falls when the elderly cross obstacles with different load distributions in their hands, and to explore the gait strategies to prevent falls for elderly people with different load distributions during obstacle crossing. Methods Twelve young healthy (control group) and 12 elderly healthy participants performed walking tasks with or without obstacle crossing at their daily speed under different load distributions. Surface electromyography (sEMG) signals were collected from both sides of the lateral femoris, rectus femoris and medial femoris. Then the average sEMG was analyzed and compared. The numbers of contact incident during obstacle touching were also recorded. Results Age, weight carrying and obstacle all had significant influences on the activity level of lower limb muscles in elderly people. A total of 9 contact incidents occurred in 1 152 obstacle crossing tests. In addition, the contribution of right vastus medialis muscle was the greatest in the elderly and young adults when they completed the weight carrying and obstacle crossing tasks. Conclusions The elderly people had the lowest risk of falling down by taking advantage of the dominant side of the leg to take the lead in obstacle crossing under the uniform distributions of load. The research findings provide references for systematic assessment of fall risk in the elderly and have certain guiding significance for lower limb exercise or rehabilitation training in the elderly.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Gene stacking refers to the introduction of two or more transgenes of agronomic interest in the same plant. The main methods for genetically engineering plants with gene stacking involve (i) the simultaneous introduction, by the co-transformation process, and (ii) the sequential introduction of genes using the re-transformation processes or the sexual crossing between separate transgenic events. In general, the choice of the best method varies according to the species of interest and the availability of genetic constructions and preexisting transgenic events. We also present here the use of minichromosome technology as a potential future gene stacking technology. The purpose of this review was to discuss aspects related to the methodology for gene stacking and trait stacking (a gene stacking strategy to combine characteristics of agronomical importance) by genetic engineering. In addition, we presented a list of crops and genes approved commercially that have been used in stacking strategies for combined characteristics and a discussion about the regulatory standards. An increased number of approved and released gene stacking events reached the market in the last decade. Initially, the most common combined characteristics were herbicide tolerance and insect resistance in soybean and maize. Recently, commercially available varieties were released combining these traits with drought tolerance in these commodities. New traits combinations are reaching the farmer's fields, including higher quality, disease resistant and nutritional value improved. In other words, gene stacking is growing as a strategy to contribute to food safety and sustainability.

ABSTRACT

The search for alternatives to increase productivity and sustainability of livestock production in the Amazon region without increasing deforestation is challenging. Mixed pastures of grasses with forage peanut (Arachis pintoi) have shown positive economic impacts. However, gaps in the knowledge of the reproductive biology of A. pintoi have limited the development of new cultivars adapted to the environmental variations in the Brazilian Amazon. Pasture consortiums of Brachiaria humidicola with forage peanuts (cv. Mandobi) resulted in a 42% increase in weight gain productivity. New cultivars better adapted to the Amazon climate should bring even greater gains. We evaluated the mating system in twenty A. pintoi accessions, and approximately 40 offspring per accession genotyped with eight microsatellites (or markers). The parameters of genetic diversity and inbreeding, the outcrossing rate and coancestry were calculated. The observed heterozygosity was significantly higher and the fixation index was significantly lower in adults compared with the offspring. The crossing rate was variable among genotypes (2 to 80%), and the mean outcrossing rate was 36%. These results indicate that pollinator presence in pastures can influence gene flow in A. pintoi more than expected. Arachis pintoi presented a mixed mating system with a predominance of selfing, and families presented inbreeding and different levels of relatedness. New strategies of genotype conservation are needed to avoid pollinator-mediated crossing between accessions. (AU)

ABSTRACT Objective. Determine the progeny difference expected (DEP) for the weaning weight adjusted to 205 days (PD) in crossbreed Brahman females born in 2016 as selection criteria for future breeders. Materials and methods. It is analyzed 3467 records generated between 1983 and 2016 in the Napo farm (San Vicente, Manabí, Ecuador). The statistical model included the random effect of the father and as fixed effects: breed composition, sex and year of birth. The variance analysis was performed using the GLM procedure of the SAS statistical package. The components of the variance between and within the father to calculate the heritability (h2) of the PD and the breeding values, the MTDFRELM software was used, applying the animal model, through the evaluation system of the Best Linear Unbiased Predictor (BLUP). Results. It was found that the PD average for the 349 females born in 2016 was 173.67±34.23 kg. A highly significant difference (p<0.01) was found for the random and fixed effects. The h2 for PD was 0.13±0.04. The DEP fluctuated between -6.13 and +5.58 kg with a range between the breeding values of 11.71 kg and an accuracy between 0.50 and 0.72. Conclusion. The low h2 found for PD shows the high influence of non-genetic factors; it is necessary to identify the best crossbreed that adapts to the livestock in order to obtain high performance products in the PD.

ABSTRACT

It is common to use acupuncture and moxibustion at unspecified area on the skin, however, its theoretical improvement is little compared with the specified area such as acupoint. The concept of originated from the discussion regarding the function and significance of the crossing of minute collateral and . Based on the in-depth analysis of relevant texts, it is believed that its content and nature should belong to the theoretical understanding of acupuncture at unspecified area; moreover, the correlation and differences of theory and expression between and acupoint is analyzed from the perspective of acupuncture treatment location. The discussion on is theoretical improvement of acupuncture treatment experience at unspecified area, which should become the resource of acupuncture theoretical construction, and enrich the understanding of the law and essence of acupuncture stimulation on the body surface.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Surface electromyography (sEMG) has been widely used in the study of clinical medicine, rehabilitation medicine, sports, etc., and its endpoints should be detected accurately before analyzing. However, endpoint detection is vulnerable to electrocardiogram (ECG) interference when the sEMG recorders are placed near the heart. In this paper, an endpoint-detection algorithm which is insensitive to ECG interference is proposed. In the algorithm, endpoints of sEMG are detected based on the short-time energy and short-time zero-crossing rates of sEMG. The thresholds of short-time energy and short-time zero-crossing rate are set according to the statistical difference of short-time zero-crossing rate between sEMG and ECG, and the statistical difference of short-time energy between sEMG and the background noise. Experiment results on the sEMG of rectus abdominis muscle demonstrate that the algorithm detects the endpoints of the sEMG with a high accuracy rate of 95.6%.
